Carpet moths infestations seem to be on the increase. They can get particularly bad in parts of your house with little traffic. eg. Under beds or behind heavy furniture.
The moths themselves do not actually eat carpets but they lay eggs which hatch and develop into larvae, it is these that rely on natural fibers such as wool and silk. The damage they can cause to a carpet or clothing can be devastating.
We recently attended a property near Newbury where the home owner had noticed an increasing number of moths in a spare bedroom. On moving the bed we found that they had been having a feast on the carpet!
It is vital that as many moths and larvae are removed (generally by vacuuming) prior to treatment with a professional insecticide.
